Man charged in Oct. 25 burglary

Ovid Teixeira, 53, was arrested on several warrants out of Lincoln County Circuit Court for failure to appear, original charge burglary with a bail amount of $300,000, according to a press release from the Lebanon Police Department.

Teixeira was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree theft in connection with an Oct. 25 burglary in the 500 block of S. 16th Street.

Officers responded to a call for a burglary in the 500 block of S. 16th Street at 7:43 a.m. on Oct. 25.

According to police logs, the home owner said the back door of the house was broken in sometime over night. The residence is a vacant rental property.

Officer Scott Barnes observed a suspicious man leaving the area at about 8:30 a.m., pushing a hand truck that had a garbage can on it.

The man ran when Barnes approached him and asked him to stop. He left the hand truck and garbage can behind. Barnes called for assistance and other LPD staff were dispatched to the area.

The man jumped fences and ran through backyards of residences; a foot chase ensued and a perimeter was developed surrounding the subject’s last known location.

A short time later, officers located Teixeira. He was detained at taser point, according to police logs.

Teixeira’s vehicle was seized and officers will be applying for a search warrant.

Teixeira has listed addresses in Sweet Home and Lebanon, according to court documents.
