1,000 COVID vaccine doses available today to qualifying Linn County residents

Linn County Public Health will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to persons in Group 6 with 1,000 doses available for the Wednesday, March 24, vaccination clinic at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center, according to Health Director Todd Noble.

Noble said Group 6 includes individuals at least 45 years old with underlying medical conditions; migrant and seasonal farm workers; seafood and agricultural workers; people living in low-income senior housing; senior congregate and independent living; homeless persons; individuals displaced by wildfires; wildland firefighters and anyone who is pregnant.

“We monitored our waiting list closely over the weekend and we realized we had 1,000 doses available,” Noble said. “We will have clinics on Thursday and Friday as well, but they are for second shots only.”

Wednesday’s clinic will provide the Pfizer vaccine.

Linn County Commissioner Roger Nyquist contacted Gov. Kate Brown’s office Tuesday morning and the county was given permission to assist those in Group 6.

“This is a very positive sign that we are expanding the eligibility criteria,” Nyquist said. “At the same time, we want to make sure those with the greatest needs have access and are getting vaccinated. We will continue to closely monitor this situation.”

Noble said the action is a week earlier than scheduled and Linn County joins Benton County in being able to provide vaccinations to three segments of the public.
