A Lebanon man was arrested after he allegedly shot at his brother during a Mother’s Day picnic, Linn County Undersheriff Jim Yon said Sunday evening.
Deputies responded to a reported shooting at approximately 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 14, in a residential area in the 100 block of Vaughn Lane in Lebanon.
Yon said arriving deputies learned that no one had been injured.
Deputies learned that Peggy L Gomez, 55, was having a Mother’s Day barbecue with her sons, Hunter Gomez, 34, and Billy Jack Gomez, 35, who live at the residence.
The investigation revealed Hunter Gomez and Billy Jack Gomez had been involved in a brief scuffle prior to the barbecue, Yon said.
As Hunter Gomez was preparing the grill, Billy Jack Gomez went into the house and retrieved a high-caliber rifle, then fired the rifle from the living room through the screen door, Yon said.
The bullet narrowly missed Hunter Gomez and struck the ground, Yon said.
Billy Jack Gomez, pictured, was arrested and lodged at the Linn County Jail for attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Deputies were assisted by members of the Oregon State Police and Lebanon Police Department, Yon said.
