Lebanon to flush water system over next weeks

The City of Lebanon Public Works Department will begin its annual flushing of the public water system on Monday, Oct. 26. The process is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

Annual water system flushing is an important part of maintaining clean, safe drinking water. This process helps improve water flow through fire hydrants, remove accumulated sediment, and identify potential maintenance needs before they become larger issues.

During this process, City maintenance crews will be flushing fire hydrants and exercising water valves throughout the city.

Residents may experience temporary water discoloration during the flushing process. Flushing can stir up sediment within the water lines, causing water to appear cloudy or discolored.

If you experience discolored water in your home, follow these steps:

  1. Run Cold Water: Turn on all cold-water faucets and allow them to run until the water becomes clear.
  2. Flush Toilets: Flush all toilets twice to help clear any remaining sediment.
  3. Contact Public Works: If the water remains discolored after completing these steps, call (541) 258-4918 for assistance.

Residents are asked NOT to place leaves in the streets during the annual water system flushing process.

Leaves and debris can block storm drains and contribute to unnecessary street flooding while crews are flushing hydrants. To help prevent flooding and allow crews to complete this important maintenance, please keep leaves out of the streets and remove any leaves that have already been placed there.

The city’s 2026 leaf pickup season does not begin until Nov.12, 2026. Residents are asked to wait until the designated collection period before placing leaves in the street.

We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as crews perform this necessary maintenance.
