Host mason bees in your garden

Master Gardener Susan Morton will teach how to host mason bees from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at Hoy’s Hardware Garden Center, 3041 Main St.

Mason bees are beneficial pollinators for gardens and farms. This is one in a series of free gardening classes presented by Linn County Master Gardeners.

Classes meet the second Saturday of the month into April at Hoy’s.

Quilting workshop for all skill levels

Learn how to quilt the “Hole in the Barn” pattern through LBCC’s one day class from 9 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Sweet Home High School, room B6.

Bonnie Putnam will teach this class, which is good for all skill levels.

Each term, a different quilt pattern is featured, with each student working on their own quilt.

Free archery lesson for beginners

Wapiti Bowmen, the archery club based in Lebanon, is hosting a free open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at 34861 Richardson Gap Road, Lebanon.

While the open house is intended to emphasize basic archery instruction for young people, adults, especially parents, are welcome to attend as well. Bows and arrows will be provided at the range or bring your own.

No prior archery experience is necessary. Modest refreshments (hot dogs, chips and drinks) will be available.

Also, Wapiti Bowmen will host a Night Owl Shoot that evening beginning at dark. The shoot will occur on a well-maintained, but unlighted field course trail and there will be 14 paper targets with reflective target spots.

Shooters may mount lights on their bows or have them on their persons (such as a head lamp), but free-standing lights are not permitted.

Cost to participate in the Night Owl Shoot is $5.

First aid training at hospital Oct. 13

A course for anyone needing basic first aid training, and basic training in CPR and AED use will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 N. Santiam Hwy.

The course teaches first aid basics, medical emergencies, injury emergencies and environmental emergencies. It covers adult, child and infant CPR with mask and choking and use of an AED.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a two-year certification card. Registration is required.

Trails walk Oct. 13 at Burkhart Creek

Build Lebanon Trails will host a walk on the Burkhart Creek Trail at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.

The Burkhart trail is an integral part of the growing Lebanon trail system and a work in progress. The goal for this trail project is to construct a safe, accessible, multi-use trail along Burkhart Creek that will run through Lebanon from southeast to northwest and connect with the Northside Community Trail.
Participants in the event will walk some of the existing and proposed sections of the trail, which has both paved and gravel sections. Well-mannered dogs on leash are welcome.

Meet at the gravel parking area on the S. 12th Street side of the Oak Street Lebanon Fire District at 1050 W Oak St., Lebanon. BLT signs will direct you to the gravel parking area.
