Saturday, May 5, is full of things to do around town, whether it’s for Cinco de Mayo celebrations or something other. We’ve compiled a list of what we know is happening.
Build Lebanon Trails 5/10K Fun Run/Walk and Kids Obstacle Dash starts at 9 a.m. at Cheadle Lake Park.

Registration will be open between 7:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5th. All registration to be completed by 9 a.m.
All proceeds go to Build Lebanon Trails (BLT) and will be used towards planning, promoting, maintaining and developing over 50 miles of fully accessible hiking, walking, and bicycling trails in Lebanon.
You can register on the day of the event only if you pay by check or cash. Same-day registration for the run/walk is $5 extra per participant. (No extra charge for Kids’ Obstacle Dash registration)

The Lebanon Senior Center is celebrating May as Asian Pacific American Heritage month, and will host an Asian culture celebration at 12 p.m. at the senior center, 80 Tangent St. Cost is $5. Asian food samples will be available, and Monmouth Taiko Drum will perform beginning at 1 pm. Taiko style drumming has roots in Asian mythology, history and other cultural aspects of this region of the world. The large drums resonate deep thunderous sounds once carried across mountain tops. Bender Mechanical Services is sponsoring a benefit auction for the Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Santiam from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Lebanon Boys & Girls Club, 305 S. 5th St. Proceeds help fund services supported by the club. Lebanon Square Circlers is holding a square dance celebrating Cinco de Mayo from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Lebanon IOOF Hall, 20 E. Ash St. Charlotte Jeskey will be calling and Jackie Gale will be cuing. Tacos will be served at break. Cost is $5 per person, or $10 for a family of three or more. Love INC will have a fiesta dinner and auction from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road E, Albany. Cost is $25. There is also a raffle. Love INC is a group of individual volunteers from churches throughout Linn County, who provide help and services to those in need.
The Linn County Museum Friends annual fundraiser, “Carriage me back,” will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5, and from 12 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the museum, 101 Park Ave, Brownsville.
Dressed in period costumes, local actors take on the personalities of colorful historical characters and depict life in the year 1918 in Brownsville, the state and country. Visitors ride in an open horse-drawn carriage from the museum to the Moyer house and watch re-enactments portraying that time period along the way.
Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child, and $170 for a full carriage ride that holds 20 people. Reservations are recommended. For more information, call (541) 466-3390
Rock Identification Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the East Linn Museum, 746 Long St., Sweet Home. The collection includes petrified wood, agates, thunder eggs, jasper, and more. Geologist Robert Rose will be available to identify visitors’ rocks.
Democratic candidate for Linn County Commissioner Stephanie Newton will host donuts and coffee from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sugar Vibes, 1302 Long St., Sweet Home.
