Camping for a musical experience

The sixth GUTS festival took place July 27-29 at Cheadle Lake Park, bringing in names like Greg Howe Band, Lynch Mob and Ty Curtis to entertain crowds of all ages and fashion sense. T-shirt-and-shorts crowds interspersed among others dressed in goth, heavy metal and hippy fashion, all enjoying the warm weather and musical performances.

This year GUTS continued its second annual Guitar Camp experience, allowing kids and adults to camp at the park and meet with performers for a chance to, perhaps, learn a few tricks of the trade.

Gary Stephens and his son, Toby, returned to Guitar Camp after attending last year. Gary said it was a great opportunity to spend time with his son and play music, which is hard to do in his busy home.

Gabriel Rodriguez also returned with his nephew, Wesley Chace, who, he said, was kind of “meh” about music before the experience last year, but has since become more passionate about it.

“I think of that experience as, like, maybe if I didn’t go there I wouldn’t still be playing,” Chace said.
