Community garden effort taking shape at Porter Street park

Considerable progress has been made for Lebanon’s community garden, located at Porter Street and Russell Drive, which began last year when the City extended Airport Road.

Raised garden beds and sections of grass border the center of the park, with trees, parking and lamp posts already installed, as well.

City council approved the use of the 1.3-acre property as a community garden in July 2015, during which time they talked about renting out the garden beds and bringing in a manager for the garden.

Porter Park will be a community garden featuring 30 raised garden beds, including handicap accessible beds, a compost bin and play area.

Jason Williams, city maintenance manager, estimates residents can begin using the garden this coming spring. A play structure and other amenities will be added later.
