Concert band has openings

Local musicians are invited to join the Willamette Valley Concert Band , which is starting its 2018-19 season.

The 55-member community band rehearses Thursday evenings starting Sept. 6 in the band room of South Albany High School on South Columbus Street in Albany. Rehearsals start at 7:30 p.m. and last two hours.

Openings exist for clarinet, oboe, trumpet, baritone, French horn and percussion. Post-high school instrumentalists with previous experience may participate. No formal auditions are required. Current members of the band live in Albany, Corvallis, Keizer, Lebanon, Monmouth, Philomath, Salem, Silverton and Sweet Home.

This is the band’s 48th season, and concerts are planned in Albany, Salem, Lebanon, Monmouth and Corvallis.

The annual fall Veterans’ Day Patriotic Pops Concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Lebanon High School Auditorium, and remaining concerts will be scheduled in December, March, May and early July. All concerts are free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

The Nov. 11 concert will feature the Lebanon High School choirs performing several selections with the band. A variety of patriotic music and traditional marches also will be included.
