The Linn County Road Department is looking to fill 19 summer jobs that pay $18 per hour, according to Kevin Hamilton, operations manager.
Hamilton said applicants must be at least 18 years old, have graduated from high school or have a GED certificate and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
“We attach a summer helper to each of our four maintenance districts (Sweet Home, Scio, Halsey, and Albany). We attach two to our Bridge Maintenance Division, and four to our Traffic Control Division,” Hamilton said. “Also, we hire eight as a crew in their own right for our Special Operations Group. We also hire a person to help in our fleet maintenance shop. The latter groups all report to our office in Albany.”
These are manual labor positions such as cutting and removing roadside vegetation, clearing trash and debris from road rights-of-way, loading and unloading materials and repairing or painting fences, rails and signposts.
Also, crews may repair or place asphalt materials, which includes being around high-temperature equipment and materials.
Some jobs will include operating pickup trucks, compaction equipment, self-propelled brooms as well as power tools.
Hamilton said most jobs will begin June 15 and end on Sept. 21, although some may start sooner and some may last longer.
We’re looking for people with a good attitude, a desire to work, and an enjoyment for working outdoors,” Hamilton said.
The average work day is from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Applications can be obtained at the Road Department, 3010 Ferry St. SW, Albany, OR, 97322 or on the Linn County website under the “Employment” tab at http://www.co.linn.or.us.
