Dear Editor: McKern’s piece on horses elicits memories

Editor:

I always enjoy Roberta McKern’s stories. Her piece in the July 1 edition, about horses, reminded me of a pair of books I read from our library, “1491”  and “1492.”

I found them fascinating… what the western hemisphere was like a long time ago, then so many fast changes after Columbus’ arrival.

Trading went both directions, west to east (Europe) as well as east to west… including animals as well as vegetables and grains.
