In light of the “unstable state of the governor’s office” and difficulty to obtain insurance for an event in June, the board of the Strawberry Festival canceled the festival for the second year in a row due to COVID.
But that didn’t stop them from eking out a little bit of festivities for the 112th “Return of the Strawberries” Strawberry Festival by hosting a few events.
The historic dress display of former Strawberry Courts was on display at the MVB building downtown, and this year’s court passed out strawberry shortcake in drive-through fashion.
Five businesses and five private homes entered the Tour of Strawberries by decorating their building and inviting the public to see their strawberry spirit.
The winners for home displays were 575 E. Ash St. (first place), 33786 Santiam Hwy. (second), and 480 Tangent St. (third).
The winners for business displays were Willamette Manor ( first place), The Oaks (second), and Gillott Home Team (third).
The Mayor’s, and AJ and Ida’s choice was 3027 Oak Terrace Drive.
Based on judging by the community via text, the People’s Choice Award went to 33786 Santiam Hwy.
