Filing period open for 4 council seats

Four City Council seats are open in the Nov. 8 election.

They include the mayor, currently held by Paul Aziz; councilor, Ward 1, held by Wayne Rieskamp; councilor, Ward 2, held by Floyd Fisher; and councilor, Ward 3, held by Bob Elliott.

The council is composed of a mayor elected from the city at large and six councilors nominated and elected by ward.

To be eligible for office, a candidate must be a Lebanon resident for at least six months and living in the ward where the candidate is running and be a registered voter.

Candidates should file election forms with the City Clerk’s Office, 925 Main St. Interested candidates must contact the city clerk to make an appointment to submit their Filing of Candidacy for Nonpartison Nomination. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on July 30.

Candidates may file by declaration and pay a $25 filing fee. They also  may apply by petition after obtaining signatures from a minimum of 25 qualified city electors. Signature pages must be approved by the city clerk before signatures are gathered.

Required forms are included in the online Candidate Handbook. The forms may be filled out online, saved and then printed out at a scheduled appointment with the city clerk.

As of July 16, three persons had filed for office: Paul Aziz, mayor; Wayne Rieskamp, Ward 1; and Karin Stauter, Ward 2.
