Lebanon Fire District personnel responded Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, to a house fire at 33669 Santiam Hwy.
According to a department report, firefighters were dispatched at 2:15 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear side of the structure.
The occupants were reported to not be in the home. Firefighters made a defensive attack from the exterior of the structure to prevent spread of the fire to surrounding exposures and nearby fields.
The residents of the home returned and alerted firefighters that animals were inside the building. Firefighters were able to enter the home and retrieved two dogs and a cat from inside. The animals were treated with oxygen at the scene and appeared to be healthy.
Firefighters remained on the scene for over three hours for extinguishment and to ensure that the fire did not rekindle. Lebanon responded with 10 apparatus and 24 personnel.
According to the report, t he cause of the fire is still under investigation.
