A Foster man was killed just before daylight Wednesday morning, Feb. 8, in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 228, Oregon State Police reported.
OSP troopers and Sweet Home emergency personnel responded at approximately 6 a.m. to the crash on the highway near milepost 19.
According to OSP, a preliminary investigation revealed that a silver GMC Canyon operated by Michael L. Stalford, 40, of Foster, was westbound on Highway 228 when he lost control of his vehicle crossing the eastbound lane and struck a large tree. It is believed that the icy road conditions and speed were contributing factors in the crash, OSP said.
Stalford was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Oregon State Police was assisted by the Sweet Home Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
