Jason Bolen was officially appointed Fire Marshal of the Lebanon Fire District during the LFD board meeting Nov. 13.
Bolen was hired as division chief of planning and administration after Fire Marshal Mark Wilson retired in 2016, with a timeline to gain certification as fire marshal.
Responsibilities as division chief include code enforcement, public education and fire investigation.
In order to get certification, Bolen had to take several courses over the past two years in other cities.
“I learned even more than I thought I could learn prior,” Bolen said. “It’s a huge part of the fire service, but it’s a very unknown part to most of the fire services.”
Also at the board meeting, Lt. Brett Kibble was awarded the Meritorious Conduct Award, and several district staff were awarded Unit Citations for heroic rescue efforts at a recent fire Sept. 16.
They are Battalion Chief Nick Tyler, Lt. Michael Maynard, Engineer Stacy Porchia, Firefighter Casey Topp, Firefighter Jamin Hooley, Firefighter Nicholas Unruh, Firefighter Bryce Maclennan, Firefighter Benjamin Walton, and Intern Beth Kobza and Lebanon Police Department Officers Justin McCubbins, Erich Schoen and Alan Baker.
