Organizers of the 2023 National Night Out in Lebanon launched a new idea this year with a karaoke contest. As many as 20 people auditioned for the opportunity to sing in front of crowds at the annual event, and three judges ultimately selected Kyndal Irvine as the winner on Aug. 2.

“It’s something to get our community involved in,” said Dala Johnson, who came up with the idea.

Last year a donut eating contest and rubber ducky scavenger hunt were initiated.

The event is held every year to promote community-police relations.

The Presley family said they normally go to Academy Square every Tuesday for Concerts in the Park, and attended National Night Out this year mostly for the karaoke, but they also enjoyed watching firefighters rip open a car and little kids dunk the police.

“I think they’re doing an excellent job,” Martie Presley said about the karaoke contest.
