Lebanon firefighters knock out house fire

The Lebanon Fire District responded to a house fire at 530 S 12th St. at approximately 12:39 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

A caller reported they saw a lot of smoke and flames coming from the roof of the residence. First arriving units found smoke coming from the eaves and flames coming from two bedroom windows. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, limiting fire damage to the bedrooms and a hallway. LFD units remained on scene for two additional hours overhauling the structure and retrieving personal items for the homeowners. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

LFD responded with 17 firefighters on seven apparatus and three chief officers. The homeowners safely evacuated the house and no firefighters were injured.

LFD reminded the public of the importance of keeping bedroom doors closed at night, stating the Firefighter Safety Research Institute (FRSI) has studied the effects of closing a door, showing this simple practice can limit the spread of a fire, slow the progression of a fire, and can give time to escape.
