A rural Lebanon man was arrested and has been charged with murder after Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call and discovered his 85-year-old mother deceased at a residence on Old Mill Road.
Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon said dispatchers received a 9-1-1 hang-up call at 10:04 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, from a residence on Old Mill Road outside Lebanon. When dispatchers called the number back, a male answered the phone and a person could be heard in the background yelling for help.
Yon said deputies responded to the location and found Kris Fiala, 54, with a knife in his hand. Deputies detained Fiala, who spit blood in a deputy’s face, Yon said. Deputies found Fiala’s mother, Gladys Fiala, 85, dead.
Kris Fiala was transported to the Linn County Jail and charged with second-degree murder and aggravated harassment.
