The Lebanon Police Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Lebanon Fire District responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on South Santiam Highway near Division Way involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian at approximately 6:16 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
An investigation determined that the pedestrian, Robert Leroy Hermans, was deceased after being struck by a northbound 2017 GMC Yukon. It’s believed Hermans was in the northbound lane of South Santiam Highway when he was hit by the vehicle.
It is believed Hermans may have been crossing South Santiam Highway at the time of the crash. However, the investigation is still ongoing. The driver of the Yukon immediately pulled over and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
Northbound lanes of South Santiam Highway between Market Street and Truman Street were closed for several hours during the investigation.
The LPD was assisted by the LCSO’s Major Accident Investigation Team, LFD, Oregon State Police and ODOT.
