Linn County Sheriff’s Office and Scio-area fire personnel responded Monday afternoon, Nov. 22, to a helicopter crash in the 39000 block of Fish Hatchery Drive, near Scio. A caller reported the crash of the two-person chopper. Undersheriff Michelle Duncan said rescue personnel responded to the location and found the operator, Jack Elvin, 74, walking around near the crash site. Elvin was the only occupant and described having a mechanical failure when attempting to land his experimental helicopter. The helicopter sustained major damage to several components. Elvin stated he was not injured.
