Public safety updates for Sweet Home, May 8-15, 2023

Warrants are out on the following individuals: Calvin Alvin Ames, Samuel Frank Ayers, Curtis Ray Daniel, Shenese Danielle Cobain, Ashlee Dee Flanagan, Aaron Thomas Halvorson, Isaac Booker Justham, Noe Hernandez-Reyes, Michael Trevor Hilton, Faron Walter Kennedy, Andrew Donald LeGore, Taylor Robert Mespelt, Carrie Lynne Miller, Kendra Lynne Montoya, Larry Robert Morgan, Julianne Nicole Phillips, Joseph Clayton Pritchett, Christopher Thomas Reed, Tammy Lavonn Robinson, Steven Edward Robinson, Paula Marie Lea Skyles-Lutzi, Corey Alan Smith, Zachary Shane Stegner and Cameron Michael Wark.

Cordell Lee Baxley, 58, was charged May 8 with first-degree rape. He posted 10% of a $100,000 bail.

Jedidiah Trevor Childress, 43, gave notice of an appeal after a Sweet Home Municipal Court jury found him guilty of DUII and reckless driving. He had also been charged with refusal to take a test for intoxicants, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, making a dangerous left turn and unlawful or signaled change of lanes for the allegations that took place on July 10, 2020.

Richard David Holcomb Jr., 49, was sentenced May 10 to 24 months with the Oregon Dept. of Corrections, 12 months post-prison supervision and a $1,000 fine based on a no-contest plea to manufacture of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school. Charges of attempt to commit a Class A felony, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of marijuana were dismissed.

Eric Wayne McKnight, 53, was charged May 11 with tampering with physical evidence, attempted unlawful delivery of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, attempted unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, attempted unlawful manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, unlawful possession of heroin, attempted unlawful delivery of heroin with 1,000 feet of a school, and unlawful delivery of heroin. Bail was set at $200,000.

Taylor Robert Mespelt, 21, was charged May 4 with seven counts of unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, six counts of first-degree theft, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, three counts of second-degree theft, four counts of identity theft, and four counts of computer crime.

Shannon Robert Murry, 45, was sentenced April 25 to pay $1,000 in compensatory restitution based on a plea of guilty to fourth-degree assault.

Kyle Thomas Sabato, 21, was charged May 8 with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and unlawful use of a weapon. Bail was set at $300,000.

Corey Alan Smith, 58, was charged with failure to report as a sex offender.

May 8

3:38 a.m. – Deputies assisted medics with a violent juvenile experiencing a psychotic episode possibly related to drug use, 43100 block of North River Drive.

8:00 a.m. – Caller reported the door to a deceased brother’s residence was open, 730 block of 7th Ave. Another caller reported a woman inside the home and wanted to pursue charges. Jennifer Carmen Reynolds, 39, was cited and released for first-degree criminal trespass.

8:18 a.m. – Caller reported a male stealing an item from Thriftway, 621 Main St. Kyle Austin Hanscam, 30, was cited and released for third-degree theft.

10:21 a.m. – Cathay Ann Smith, 48, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon, Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

11:46 a.m. – Deputies investigated a report of a skinny horse, 40800 block of Hwy. 228. The call was forwarded to Linn County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control.

2:20 p.m. – A vehicle was abandoned at Gedney Creek Boat Ramp, 43700 block of North River Drive. The 1985 Ford F350 was tagged, and its owner was notified that it would be towed if not moved.

4:16 p.m. – Caller reported that someone had stolen his wallet after he left it on the counter, Bi-Mart, 1980 Main St. Report taken for second-degree theft. Approximate value: $700.

May 9

7:51 a.m. – Sterling Daniel Sherburn, 23, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft, Lebanon Police Department.

10:18 a.m. – Shyanne Nickole Church, 25, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of failure to appear on a second-degree original charge, Lebanon Police Department.

10:40 a.m. – Levi Joe Newberg, 32, was arrested on a Lebanon Police Department warrant for failure to appear on original charges of second-degree theft and second-degree criminal mischief, Lebanon Police Department.

11:47 a.m. – Caller reported an aggressive dog in the parking lot at Foster Elementary School, 5526 Poplar St. An officer responded and contacted the principal, then attempted to get the animal to comply several times. However, it would not allow the officer to get close. It was unknown where the dog went after the school went into lockdown. Officer advised the school to notify the police department if the dog returned. Will attempt to contact the owner of the dog or the residence where it was kept to issue a citation for dog-at-large.

12:33 p.m. – Caller reported the theft of property from a residential shop in the 700 block of 50th Avenue. Total value: approximately $1,449. Missing items included an orange and gray model H7131 Stihl pole saw, serial number 292115287, orange and gray in color, approximate value $669.95; an orange and gray model MS192CE Stihl chainsaw, serial number 290973163, approximate value $379.95; a faded orange and gray model 461 Stihl chainsaw with a 36-inch bar, approximate value $400. Report taken.

1:46 p.m. – Caller reported her son for attacking her husband, 1800 block of 12th Ave. Justin Joseph Rhoads, 33, was arrested for domestic violence – menacing.

2:28 p.m. – Michael Evan Matthews, 38, was cited and released on a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving with a suspended license violation, 2400 block of Main St.

4:13 p.m. – Joshua Kealohanui Ben Leslie, 35, was arrested on a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft and on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for harassment, 1950 Main St.

8:15 p.m. – Caller reported the presence of a male possibly involved in a burglary, 13th Ave./Nandina St. Hunter Ariel Ringheimer, 29, was cited and released on Sweet Home Municipal warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of failure to perform duties of driver when property is damaged, a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for probation violation and a Linn County Justice Court warrant for driving with a suspended license.

8:47 p.m. – Caller reported that a driver struck a dog but turned around and came back after initially leaving the scene, 44th Ave./Main St. This caller stated that no assistance was necessary. Another caller reported that the male driver came back smelling like alcohol. He also reportedly hit a mailbox as he left the scene. Report taken for hit-and-run.

9:12 p.m. – Cristy Jane Cromwell, 42, was cited and released on Sweet Home Municipal Court warrants for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft X3, a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for probation violation, a Marion County Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of unlawful possession of meth and a Polk County Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of reckless burning and possession of meth, 1540 Main St.

May 10

6:46 a.m. – Steven Lee Ballweber, 34, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of hit-and-run, a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving with a suspended license, an Albany Municipal Court warrant for contempt of court and a Linn County Sheriff’s Office warrant for second-degree criminal trespass and hit-and-run, 1200 block of 46th Ave.

10:12 a.m. – Caller reported that her vehicle was stolen from her friend’s home sometime the previous day, 1080 block of Poplar St. Report taken for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The vehicle has since been returned to its owner.

1:52 p.m. – Deputy discovered the Green Peter powerhouse gate open and followed the road down to the bottom, where “it was very busy with people working on a fish study.”

6:15 p.m. – Caller reported a physical altercation between two juvenile students, Sweet Home Junior High School, 880 22nd Ave. The caller reported that the female has a bloody nose after the male tackled her to the ground. Officer spoke to the school’s vice principal by phone. The information was noted, for now.

May 11

2:12 a.m. – Caller reported being hit, shoved and choked by a brother, 1100 block of Spruce St. Zachery Todd Pickle was cited and released for harassment and on a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

2:26 a.m. – Caller reported being scared of people surrounding her, potentially with weapons, Hilltop Market, 4824 Main St. An officer responded and contacted the female, who was suffering from severe mental health issues. She was transported to the hospital by medics. Courtney Dawn Allen, 33, was cited and released on Linn County Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of improper use of 911.

7:50 a.m. – Phillip Thomas Swartz, 35, of Sweet Home, was arrested on five outstanding warrants, 45100 block of Quartzville Road. Report taken.

8:30 a.m. – Phillip Thomas Swartz, 36, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving with a suspended license, Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

8:54 a.m. – Caller reported tools stolen from job site, 44200 block of McDowell Creek Drive. Investigation ongoing. Caller was performing construction work at the location. When he returned the following day, he found two 20-foot chains (half-inch, $100 each) and two ratcheting load binders (orange, $125 each) stolen from a dump bed trailer left at the job site. Miscellaneous tools (hammer, multiple clevis, and hydraulic oil), valued at approximately $500, were also missing. Report taken.

9:09 a.m. – Heather Thompson, 43, was cited and released on a Linn County Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of unauthorized use of vehicle, 1400 block of 24th Ave. Denise Burrow, 56, was cited and released on Linn County Circuit Court warrant for possession of meth, failure to appear on an original charge of a criminal citation X3 and first-degree criminal trespass, and on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of second-degree criminal trespass.

9:53 a.m. – Gregory Allen Tibbs, 55, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft, Albany Police Department.

10:28 a.m. – An older female reportedly stuffed merchandise in her purse and left, Thriftway, 621 Main St. Kimberly Lunn, 54, was arrested for third-degree theft.

10:35 a.m. – Damage to private property was reported at T2 in the 28600 block of Hwy. 20 as result of collision. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 2022 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer owned by Western Express turned too sharp and dragged the trailer across a short retaining wall.

10:59 a.m. – James Jonathan Georgelis, 40, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of hit-and-run, Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

1:39 p.m. – Antoinette Leinaala Kealoha, 57, was cited for no valid driver’s license and driving uninsured, Mountain View Road/Elm St.

3:52 p.m. – Desirae Anne Armstrong, 28, was cited and released for second-degree child neglect, 1100 block of 29th Ave.

4:52 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office retrieved a dog abandoned at Lewis Creek Park, 44400 block of North River Drive. The animal, described as mostly black (white chest, silver hips) female labrador-type mix, was tied to a tree with no food or water. A white minivan was seen leaving the dog and driving away. Investigation continuing.

6:32 p.m. – Weston Donovan Thompson, 32, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of third-degree theft, Hood River Police Department.

8:36 p.m. – Deputy responded to a verbal disturbance in the 38300 block of Crawfordsville Drive. The involved parties calmed down and said they would go to sleep for the night.

11:03 p.m. – Caller reported a stolen generator, 1200 block of 4th Ave. Report taken for second-degree theft.

May 12

7:48 a.m. – Paul Kalina, 47, was cited and released on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of theft of services, 1950 Main St.

10:41 a.m. – Larry Burks, 59, was cited for dog at-large, Money Man, 755 Main St.

10:58 a.m. – Chelsey Devault, 60, of Sweet Home, was cited for dog as a public nuisance, 43100 block of North River Drive. The dog reportedly has been “continually running at-large” on other properties, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Report taken.

1 p.m. – Deputy patrolling the Green Peter area from Green Peter 600 to Middle Santiam 300 line attempted a security check at the Green Peter radio tower but was forced to turn around due to snow at the 400 line.

2:45 p.m. – Deputy patrolling Quartzville Road encountered an illegal camp near milepost 3. The responsible male was contacted, advised and sent on his way.

2:48 p.m. – Graffiti and a possible bullet hole were reported on play equipment, Sankey Park, 877 14th Ave. Report taken; public works department advised.

4:24 p.m. – Damon Brittain, 24, of Lebanon, was arrested for reckless driving, speeding (31-plus over the posted speed), Hwy. 20/Dew Road. Report taken.

7:33 p.m. – A female reportedly refused to leave after being given a 24-hour trespass, 1400 block of 24th Ave. Kellie Ann Hesson, 56, was cited and released on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of first-degree trespass and on a Linn County Circuit Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of resisting arrest.

7:48 p.m. – A single-vehicle injury crash was reported in the 41000 block of Upper Calapooia Drive. Teira Redick, 26, of Lebanon, was transported to a hospital. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Redick failed to negotiate a curve in the road and overcorrected her 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, resulting in the crash. Three children in the vehicle, ages 3, 5 and 6, were not injured seriously enough to require transport, according to LCSO. All were properly seatbelted. Redick was cited for expired tags. Report taken.

9:18 p.m. – Caller reported a female and child sitting on the sidewalk, with the former striking the latter in the face and arguing with bystanders before possibly running from the scene on foot, 1300 block of Main St. The caller attempted to take a picture. Another caller reported being attacked by her son, who has autism, forcing her to physically restrain him as people began yelling at her. Michelle Marie Buckner, 35, was cited and released for harassment.

May 13

8:48 a.m. – Kyle Lee Carpenter, 27, was cited for no license, 3200 block of Main St.

12:21 p.m. – Steven Allen Jones, 33, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of being a felon in possession of a weapon, Oregon State Police.

1:30 p.m. – Clarence David Lee Vogel, 22, was cited and released on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft X4, 1700 block of Main St.

3:12 p.m. – Jesse Lee Benton, 32, was cited for driving uninsured, 3900 block of Main St.

3:28 p.m. – Caller reports two individuals stealing her mail, 2200 block of Main St. A report was taken for mail theft.

3:48 p.m. – Ozric Izaguirre, 37, of Salem, was cited for operating a motor boat without a certificate number, 47300 block of Quartzville Road. Report taken.

5:46 p.m. – Jason Ridders, 50, of Lebanon, was cited for no angling license. 45000 block of Quartzville Road.

5:59 p.m. – Elijah Pannier, 42, of Stayton, was cited for no angling license, 47700 block of Quartzville Road.

6:25 p.m. – Deputies responded to the Sunnyside Park regarding a report of some 20 people fighting. Alcohol was a factor. There were no immediate charges or citations, but a report was written and forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review. No injuries.

7:08 p.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a sinking boat on Green Peter. Boat had struck a partially submerged stump while underway, which damaged the outdrive and caused it to take on water. No injuries were reported. The boat was able to make it back to the ramp. Report taken.

7:38 p.m. – Officer responded with medics to an unconscious person who ran into a house, 1200 block of 43rd Ave. Jack Vance Townsend Jr., 56, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

8:40 p.m. – The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a disturbance at Sunnyside Park, 44930 Quartzville Road, Foster. It turned out that two friends were simply wrestling.

May 14

4:55 a.m. – Deputy checked on a report of a suspicious vehicle at a vacant home in the 39000 block of Crawfordsville Drive. It turned out that the vehicle was registered to the address and was parked in a new driveway that the owners had made. Reporting person was not familiar with the situation and was just being cautious.

7:28 a.m. – Danielle Rene Anderson, 29, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft, Linn County Sheriff’s Office.

9:38 a.m. – Leonard John Finnell, 20, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of initiating a false report, Lebanon Police Department.

9:53 a.m. – Robert Edward Hilliard, 53, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal Court warrant for failure to comply on an original charge of criminal driving, Albany Police Department.

10:04 a.m. – Caller reports a stolen weedeater, 1200 block of Nandina St. Report taken for second-degree theft. Approximate value: $200.

1:50 p.m. – Chelsie Leann Baxter, 33, was cited and released on a Lebanon Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving with a suspended license, 18th Ave./Tamarack St.

6:46 p.m. – Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at Sunnyside Park, 44930 Quartzville Road, Foster. According to the Sheriff’s Office, one male confronted another (the suspect) after the latter was observed doing “cookies.” It was verbal only. Deputies have identified the suspect and have probable cause to arrest him for criminal mischief. That investigation is in process. Report taken.

May 15

12:17 a.m. – Katherine Marie Berghoffer, 42, was arrested on a Sweet Home Municipal warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of third-degree theft, Albany Police Department.
