A teenaged girl was arrested Tuesday, April 29, following threats of a school shooting at Scio High School, Linn County Sheriff Michelle Duncan reported.
According to Duncan, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of the incident at 5:23 p.m. Monday, April 28, after the principal of Scio High School received an email from a teacher reporting the incident.
“Staff from the Scio High School, deputies from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, and family of the 17-year-old juvenile worked together to ensure nobody was in immediate danger due to the threat,” Duncan said in a statement.
She said there were firearms in the girl’s home but the teen did not have access to them and they were eventually removed entirely from the residence.
The suspect admitted to making statements about shooting people at school, but stated they were not serious about the statements, Duncan said.
The juvenile was arrested and taken to the Linn Benton Juvenile Detection Center on charges of first-degree disorderly conduct.
