SHFAD Battles Fifth Brush Fire Near Old Mill Property in Six Week Period

At 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 11, Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District firefighters battled the fifth brush fire since June 29 at or near an old mill property on 24th Avenue. This fire was located at the end of 24th Avenue near the railroad tracks.

The Aug. 11 blaze was quickly contained, thanks in large part to firebreaks in the area that were put in the week prior by a the joint effort of property owners, the city of Sweet Home, and SHFAD’s Community Wildfire Risk Reduction Program funded by a grant from the Oregon State Fire Marshal.

Investigators have not been able to pinpoint exact ignition sources for these five recent fires, but they determined that all of them were human-caused and contained unauthorized campsites.
