Slate of candidates for council finalized

The race for mayor in Lebanon will be a three-way contest in the Nov. 6 election, and two other City Council wards will be contested.

At the close of the filing deadline on July 30, eight people had filed to run for City Council, according to City Clerk Linda Kaser.

Incumbent Paul Aziz will face current Ward 3 council member Bob Elliott and newcomer Tom Gregory in the race for mayor.

In Ward 1, Oak Creek, incumbent Wayne Rieskamp will be unchallenged. Ward 1 includes most of the area south of Oak Street and east of Main Street.

In Ward 2, Pioneer, Karin Stauder and Duston Denver will run against each other. Ward II is north of Oak and, to the east, Sherman and Ash streets.

In Ward 3, Santiam, Greg Nervino and Michelle Steinhebel have filed to run. Ward III includes the areas south of Ward 2 and east of Ward 1.

Kaser said she plans to have an electronic copy of the city’s voter’s pamphlet posted by Sept. 17.
