SLCH Auxiliary finishes year with big volunteer hours, donations

The Auxiliary and Volunteer Services at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital are wrapping up another huge year, with 12,000 volunteer hours given thus far in 2018 and $88,000 contributed for equipment at the hospital and its off-site facilities.

The following allocations were announced at the auxiliary’s annual luncheon earlier this month:

n Inpatient nursing units (Acute Care, Critical Care and Girod Birth Center): Patient repositioner

n Samaritan Family Medicine – Brownsville: Blood pressure monitors

n Cardiac Rehabilitation: Exercise equipment

n Diabetes Education: Glucose monitoring system and sanding burrs/accessories for patient foot care

n Emergency Management: HAM radio equipment

n Endoscopy: Boreoscope and monitor

n Nutrition Services: Steam table and other kitchen equipment

n Sweet Home Family Medicine: Adjustable exam chair

n Wiley Creek: Mobile chart rack

In addition, the auxiliary made its final $40,000 payment on its $200,000 pledge to the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation toward the foundation’s capital campaign for the Boulder Falls Center construction and adjacent Japanese Garden. The auxiliary now will work on fulfilling its $100,000 pledge toward the Emergency/Surgery Capital Campaign.

All funds come from auxiliary-coordinated sales. Those range from the Garden Grounds espresso stand and Caring Corner gift shop at the hospital to the twice-yearly six-dollar sales, scrub sales and book sales; as well as poinsettia sales and other events.

Hospital volunteers and auxiliary members contribute their hours at several patient-greeting stations around the hospital, as well as the auxiliary’s fundraising activities. In addition, several volunteers maintain the hospital’s HAM radio equipment, and others stuff pillows and knit baby hats, blankets and prayer shawls.

“You are the heart behind the numbers,” said Peggy Sweet, auxiliary president, at the luncheon. “When we think of service organizations, we think of groups of caring, giving people. This group goes beyond that because you’re such a cohesive group. You’re the best group of volunteers there is!”
