A two-story Sodaville home burned Sunday afternoon, July 1.
According to the Lebanon Fire District, firefighters responded at 3:50 p.m. to a report of flames coming out of the second-story window of the home in the 30500 block of Sodaville Mountain Home Road. Neighboring fire departments had to be called on by an off-duty battalion chief, who issued a second alarm for mutual aid because LFD units were already responding to two other fire calls.
Upon arrival the home owner was not home and no occupants were inside. The fire district conducted a defensive fire, fighting the fire from the outside. It took 27 firefighters from the Lebanon Fire District, Albany Fire Department, Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District, Scio Fire Department and Brownsville Fire Department about 3 1/2 hours to extinguish the fire.
The area where the fire occurred does not have fire hydrants. Multiple water tenders were needed to bring water to the fire scene.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. One firefighter was treated for heat exposure.
The Red Cross reported that it assisted one adult and pets following the blaze.
