Learn Native culture
Linn County Parks and Recreations sponsors a Native American Cultural Encampment weekend event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Aug. 26-28, at Cascadia State Park.
Members from tribes such as the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde, Lakota and Cherokee, as well as from tribes in Alaska and Montana invite the public to learn about their culture and traditions by attending the event.
On Friday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., they will host a craft class to make tobacco bags. Flute music and storytelling will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. On Saturday, they will host a craft class to make dream catchers. Traditional dancing and information will be from 4 to 6 p.m. On Sunday there will be a dance demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m., and the tribes will share a feast from 4 to 6 p.m.

Take a drive and watch a powwow
The public is invited to attend the Grand Ronde Contest Powwow Friday through Sunday, Aug. 19-21, at the uyxat Powwow Grounds, 9600 Highway 22 (Hebo Road), Grand Ronde.
The Grand Ronde Royalty Pageant will kick off the event at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Tribal Governance Center, and the 2022-23 Royalty Court will officially be crowned at 5 p.m. at the powwow grounds. Dancers and drummers compete for large cash prizes during the weekend. Awards will be presented on Saturday for best dressed drum group and best classic song by a drum group, as well as best dressed dancers.
Cost is $1 a day, or $5 for camping. Organizers remind attendees that seating may be limited due to large turnouts. For more information, call (503) 879-2037.
Join the city-wide yard sale
The Lebanon Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual City-wide garage sale on Saturday, Aug. 20. Registrants pay $20 and will receive a yard sign, get advertising and get their sale listed on a map. To register your yard sale, visit lebanon-chamber.org, or call (541) 258-7164.
