Lebanon Local’s website, lebanonlocalnews.com, now offers an opportunity for readers to access news about state government, provided by the newly established Oregon Capital Chronicle.
The Salem-based newsroom is led by Editor-in-Chief Les Zaitz, a two-
time Pulitzer finalist and longtime investigative reporter in Oregon. He is joined by deputy editor Lynne Terry, who was recently editor of The Lund Report; Julia Shumway, recently a statehouse reporter for Arizona Capitol Times, and Alex Baumhardt, most recently a reporter and producer with American Public Media.
The button, as shown above, will take readers to Oregon Capital Chronicle’s daily reporting at
oregoncapitalchronicle.com. The service also offers morning newsletters to subscribers. The service is free with no paywall.
The free email newsletter, Your Daily Chronicle, will offer easy access to the day’s top Oregon news and commentary. Readers can sign up for the newsletter at the website – oregoncapitalchronicle.com.
“Our purpose is to provide careful reporting about state government and leaders that has been reduced in recent years as news organizations cut,” said Zaitz. “We will get beyond the story of the day and probe the politics and policies that touch every Oregonian. We will do so thoroughly, accurately and without bias.”

Oregon Capital Chronicle is the 25th outlet covering state government as part of States Newsroom, a national nonprofit network funded by tax-deductible donations from readers and philanthropists.
“We are proud to have Les and his talented team in Salem fulfilling our mission of relentless reporting on state government that helps Oregonians understand the decisions that shape their lives,” said Chris Fitzsimon, president and publisher of States Newsroom.
