For a city split by a highway through the mountains, Main Street buildings provide a canvas for the Sweet Home community to tell its story. Larry Kangas’ old cop car still keeps watch at the corner of 12th and Main. Others have faded from the town’s facades. To keep the town’s legacy alive, City Hall wants artists to submit proposals for new murals.
In a Facebook post on Dec. 5 (see post below), the City announced they’re soliciting proposals for 12 new murals along Main and Long. According to the post, proposals are due by Feb. 15. On Jan. 11, the City will host a pre-proposal meeting to help local artists prepare their pitches.
If everything goes according to plan, city officials expect the project to start in June 2024, and finish October 2024. For the thousands of summer tourists, the city hopes a new slate of murals will showcase the changing Sweet Home community.
