Triple Celebrations, Thrice the Fun

Friday, July 12, was a very special day for Steve Kassis, owner of The Filling Station in Lebanon. Not only was it Collector Car Appreciation Day, but it was also the 45th anniversary of the business he had created, as well as his 75th birthday.

The public welcomed the opportunity to display their vintage vehicles, with more than 60 cars and trucks of all makes and models dazzling the spectators. Everyone was treated to a free barbecue meal and lots of cake.

The Filling Station was “born” in Sacramento, Calif. Steve, however, longed for the Pacific Northwest where he often visited relatives, so he moved the business to Lebanon in 1991 and provided jobs for 10 Oregonians.

The Filling Station is predominantly a mail-order business providing replacement parts for vintage Chevrolets, but walk-ins are always welcome. Steve (and his brother/co-owner Jerry Kassis) attribute the longevity of the business to their extensive knowledge and love of Chevrolets, keeping up with technology, knowing the customers’ needs and providing technical advice.

Most importantly, their success rests on the shoulders of their very competent employees and their much-appreciated customers. The Filling Station has been serving the collector car hobby since 1979.
