Meals on Wheels seeks drivers
Meals on Wheels needs drivers to deliver hot meals to local home-bound residents.
Drivers can deliver a couple of hours, a day or two a week, or as infrequently as once a month.
Currently, MOW serves about 150 home-delivered and dining room meals each day in Lebanon. Mileage reimbursement is available. This is a family-friendly volunteer opportunity (an adult volunteer must accompany minors).

Submit works for Li’l Art Show
Submissions are being accepted for the Li’l Art Show, scheduled from May 31 to July 2 at the Linn County Arts Guild’s Gifts and Gallery, 605 Main St.
All art must have a finished size of 8-by-10 (8-by-10-by-10 for 3-D) or smaller and must be ready to hang or be displayed. Entries are limited to two per person.

Woodlands group offers scholarships
The Linn County Small Woodlands Association is offering $2,000 scholarships to students graduating from Linn County high schools who plan to study forestry or forestry-related natural resources.
The scholarships are open to students who plan to attend an Oregon college or in a dual-enrollment program (such as LBCC-OSU and LCC-UO). The scholarships are renewable at $1,000 to $2,000 rates, depending on the success of the LCSWA’s annual winter seedling sales.
Academic achievements, honors and awards, school activities and community engagement will be considered.
Application forms, which must be postmarked or e-mailed by May 31, are available at Linn County’s high schools and from LCSWA scholarship chair Katie Kohl at [email protected].
Online plant sale under way
The Linn County Juvenile Department is holding an online plant sale, “New Beginnings Garden,” with items available for view at new-beginnings-garden.myshopify.com.
The sale offers a full array of potted flowers, succulents, hanging baskets and tree seedlings. Four-inch potted flowers cost $4 each, with hanging flower baskets available for $35.
All sales are made only through the website via orders placed with a credit card. Items may be picked up the following day at Linn County Juvenile Dentention Center, 4400 Lochner Road SE, Albany.

American Legion seeks donations
American Legion Auxiliary Albany Unit 10 will be distributing poppies in exchange for donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at Bi-Mart, 2272 Santiam Hwy. SE, Albany .
Red poppies symbolize the sacrifice of U.S. service members killed while protecting the nation. Community members are encouraged to wear the flower in honor of those fallen heroes and to support military, veterans and their families.
All money collected directly supports service members, veterans and their families through American Legion Auxiliary’s outreach programs.

The Northwest Civil War Council will present a time-period reenactment and living history from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, and 9 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at Cheadle Lake Park, 37941 Weirich Drive.
Entertainment includes daily battles, medical demonstration, camp life and fashion show.
Admission is $10 for adults, free for children 7 and under. Only cash can be accepted.

Participants are asked to bring their own gardening equipment for this effort, which will be held in association with SOLVE of Oregon. The annual membership meeting will directly follow the cleanup.

Q&A session set for nurses
A question-and-answer session for nurses will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, in Room H-150 of the Linn-Benton Community College Health Occupations Center, 300 Mullins Drive.
Ruby Jason, executive director of the Oregon State Board of Nursing, will address questions and more, and will also update any practice questions participants may have in regard to faith community nursing practices.

Concert Band back on stage May 30
The Willamette Valley Concert Band, under the direction of John Russell, returns to the stage after a COVID-19 hiatus with “Honoring the Fallen,” a Memorial Day concert at 3 p.m. Monday, May 30, at the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon State University campus, 975 SW 26th St., Corvallis.
The program will feature such patriotic anthems as Francis Scott Key and John Stafford Smith’s “The Star-Spangled Banner,” arranged by John Williams. Other pieces will include John Williams’ “Hymn For The Fallen,” from the 1998 film “Saving Private Ryan;” Henry Fillmore’s “Americans We;” a Frank Ticheli-arranged “Amazing Grace;” a Bob Lowden-arranged “Armed Forces Salute;” and John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever,” arranged by Keith Brion and Loras Schissel; as well as music from Henry Mancini and Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Admission is free, and all audience contributions will fund scholarships for middle and high school students to attend summer music camp.
The Albany-based Willamette Valley Concert Band has performed in the Willamette Valley since 1970.
Library starting reading program
“Read Beyond the Beaten Path,” the Lebanon Public Library’s summer reading program, begins Wednesday, June 1.
The program is open to all ages. Those wishing to participate may visit the library at 55 Academy St. to pick up a reading journal to keep track of how many minutes are spent reading, then bring it back to claim prizes. Families are encouraged to sign up and read together throughout the summer.
Free summer lunches will be provided for children up to age 18 after Tuesday Storytime and Thursday Performer events. Rain or Shine Outdoor Storytime will be held Tuesday mornings through Aug. 16 on the Children’s patio.
Guitars Under the Stars tickets
Early-bird tickets for the fifth annual Guitars Under the Stars, scheduled for July 29-30 at Cheadle Lake Park, must be purchased by Wednesday, June 1.

Pancake breakfast set for June 4
The Lebanon Optimist Pancake Breakfast returns from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Linn Lanes, 2250 S. Main St.
The meal includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, and cooked ham, coffee and orange juice.
Cost is $8 per person, $4 for patrons 12 and under and active military and veterans.
Used books sale coming June 1
Friends of the Lebanon Public Library will hold its used bookstore from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at the Edward C. Allworth Veterans’ Home, 600 N. Fifth St.
Books in favorite genres requested by the residents will be featured.
The Friends will then hold its regular June Book Sale from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Lebanon Senior Center at 80 Tangent St.
Most books range from 50 cents to $2 each. Inventory includes the group’s refreshed bookstore, new arrivals, audiobooks and DVDs, blind date books, special bundles and sets, carved vintage book art, unique book gifts and more.
Proceeds support the Lebanon Public Library’s reading and arts programs. Credit/debit card and contactless payments are available on purchases of $5 or more.
Gardening classes offered in Lebanon
Free gardening classes will be offered on second Tuesdays through Oct. 11 at the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
Sessions will be held at 10 a.m., beginning with a question-and-answer period followed by short lectures on gardening topics.
The topic for June 14 is “Organic Nutrients/Companion Planting.”

Family Pride Day set in Lebanon
Lebanon Downtown Association presents Family Pride Day from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Academy Square and the Lebanon Senior Center, 80 Tangent St.
Family Pride Day celebrates the diversity of family. Enjoy free fun with games, entertainment, education, and more. Local and educational resources will be available at the tabling area. A celebration walk around Academy Square will follow.
After the walk, the party and resource tabling will last until 3 p.m. Head to the Senior Center before 3 p.m. for refreshments and the documentary, “‘Who’s on Top? LGBTQs Summit Mt. Hood,” which follows the stories of members of the LGBTQ community who challenge stereotypes about gender and sexuality, and demonstrate their diverse.
