Four-day burn ban to start Thursday morning, April 15

A four-day burn ban will start Thursday morning, April 15, and run through Monday, April 19.

The Linn County Fire Defense Board, made up of local fire chiefs in the county, decided to institute the ban due to east winds and expected warm temperatures over the weekend, said Tangent Fire Chief Larry Wooldridge, who heads the board.

“We decided this morning that a burn ban would start Thursday at 7 a.m. and last till 7 p.m. on Monday,” he said.

Prohibited are debris and other burn piles. The ban does not include barbecues, ceremonial fires, firepits, etc.

“There have already been a number of fires in the area, most of which had very active fire behavior associated with them for this time of year,” Wooldridge said. “The Linn County Fire Defense Board feels that by refraining from burning these next few days, we will be able to prevent more of these fire events.”
